LAA340 Diagram
Tin held the lecture/workshop Diagram at “LAA340 Design and Management of Urban Blue-Green Infrastructures”. The lecture encourages students to draw, convey and convince beyond the conventional plans and sections of landscape architecture. With blue-green infrastructure operating across ecological, social and spatial systems, a big part of the course is about understanding and communicating relationships that are not necessarily visible in the physical landscape. The workshop therefore focuses on using diagrams to translate complex analyses, processes and systems into clear ideas—and eventually, design proposals. In short, the point was not simply to make better-looking diagrams, but to understand what the diagram is supposed to do.

This Diagram lecture has been an ongoing exercise Tin has conducted for thousands of pupils at upper secondary schools (high schools) through tours with DKS, across multiple courses at university and as a service for researchers writing ERC applications at OsloMet.

LAA340 focuses on the planning, design and management of urban blue-green infrastructure (BGI) as a means of creating more sustainable, resilient and equitable cities and towns. It covers nature-based solutions, multifunctional landscapes, ecological prerequisites, catchment-based planning, climate adaptation, public health and social sustainability. Through lectures, workshops, fieldwork and project-based assignments, students analyse complex landscape issues and develop blue-green strategies and design proposals using systems thinking, critical problem formulation and exploratory approaches. The main project allows students to develop their own profile within detailed design, planning or green-space management, progressing from analysis and problem formulation to alternative concepts and a final proposal. The course is led by associate professor Ingrid Merete Ødegård (LA).
