LAA350 - Consolidated lectures
Tin kicks off his LAA350 lecture series with an extended oppsamlingsforelesning, combining and revising two previous lectures on Oppgaveforståelse and From-analysis-to-concept. This year, the lecture is structured around three connected parts: 1. Shaping a brief, 2. Act on the brief, and 3. From analysis-to-proposition. It also establishes what sits at the core of LAA350—and, perhaps more importantly, what does not.

LAA350 occupies the design and concept-development part of the property development process. The students are therefore asked to put on their consultant hat: rather than spending their time on site acquisition, stakeholder matrices, financial calculations or evaluating an already finished concept, the course focuses on developing one. The relevant ingredients are consequently site understanding, observations and data, massing and density studies, teamwork and design iterations—eventually brought together as a resolved spatial proposition.
Shaping a brief starts by turning an open assignment into something sufficiently precise to act upon. Act on the brief then means actually allowing this understanding to steer what the team investigates and develops—not writing an oppgaveforståelse only to forget about it afterwards. Finally, From analysis-to-proposition connects what is observed to what is proposed. Analysis should therefore not become an encyclopedia of everything there is to know about Fornebu. The useful findings are those that progressively foreshadow and substantiate the argument for the proposal that follows.
The lecture forms the starting point of Tin's five-part LAA350 lecture series: Oppgaveforståelse → Analysis-to-proposition → Diagram → Concept, before eventually moving towards RFP. In other words, the series follows the same basic trajectory as the students' projects: from figuring out what the hell you are supposed to be doing, to eventually being able to explain—and draw—what you propose.
This revises and combines Tin's earlier LAA350 – Oppgaveforståelse and LAA350 – Analysis lectures, which separately dealt with interpreting the assignment and establishing coherence between analysis and concept.
