Theses defense x3
Tin supervised three master theses on the program, MsC in Property Development. The students were Desirée Bergene + Josefine Jensrud (co-authors), Sofie Nygård, and Mina Kjerkol Tanberg. This year’s cohort, all chose topics surrounding urban concepts and architectonic quality, exploring what Geltner call the “entrepreneurial and visionary aspects” of property development.
The master thesis supervision process was organised around three milestone seminars and followed a flipped classroom approach, whereby students reviewed and commented on each other's drafts in advance and seminar time was devoted to discussion and feedback. The seminars were intended to support the progression from initial drafts to a near-final manuscript, with an emphasis on constructive peer learning, critical reflection, and the development of a coherent and academically rigorous thesis. Individual supervision was provided when required, complementing the shared seminar format and ensuring continuous support throughout the writing process.
Introductory Seminar: Students presented initial drafts of the introduction, theoretical framework, methodology, and references. Feedback focused on the overall structure of the thesis, the alignment between research questions, theory, research design and methods, as well as the positioning of the study within the existing body of literature.
Midterm Seminar: Students presented preliminary findings and analytical chapters. The emphasis was placed on discussing emerging results, strengthening the analytical framework, and receiving peer and supervisor feedback on the interpretation and presentation of the empirical material.
Final Seminar: Students presented a near-complete version of the thesis. Feedback focused on the overall coherence of the manuscript, the integration of chapters, the quality of the discussion and conclusions, the contribution to knowledge, and the final refinement of arguments and references in preparation for submission.
The students Tin supervised are marked as in red circles, from left: Sofie Nygård, Mina Kjerkol Tanberg, Josefine Jensrud, and Desirée Bergene.
Here are some photos from the graduation ceremony and on the campus lawn. Couldn’t find Sofie and Mina, so had to settle for selfies with Josefine and Desirée. Here are the photos:
