High Praise in Reykjavik

Air Studio receives high praise for ttheir entry of a kindergarten and family centre in Reykjavik, Iceland. This entry was lauded for its dreamlike expression and how it pays hommage to Icelandic building traditions and landscape.

Jurors remark:

“…an interesting and dreamlike entry which pays hommage to the Icelandic building tradition of turf roof and its relation to the native landscape, as the moss-covered roof and the vegetation surrounding the building becomes one. It is easy to forget that this is in the downtown of Reykjavik, as the expression gives both the children and the residents the feel of being on the country side. This adventurous approach gives the building an exotic expression to its surroundings. (…) there is an opening between the floors that visually connect the spaces between the floors. The curved ceiling sets a distinct and beautiful look to the interior experience of the building. The proposal is original and well presented.”
